COURSE CURRICULUM

Students in the Master of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering thesis option must complete CHE 600 Engineering and Research Methods, Ethics, Practice, and Law, which carries a 0.25 credit weight, along with four graduate courses each worth 0.50 credit units. Required courses include either CHE 601 Theory and Application of Transport Phenomena or CHE 602 Chemical Reactor Analysis, plus three graduate-level elective courses, with at least one being a Chemical Engineering (CHE) course. For students without a Chemical Engineering background, two of these electives must be CHE courses to ensure foundational knowledge. Restrictions include a maximum of one 500-level course, no more than two courses taught by the student’s supervisor, and only one reading course allowed. Course selection is made in consultation with the student’s research supervisor to align with their academic and research goals. Students typically maintain a full course load of at least two 0.50 unit courses per term while making satisfactory progress on their research projects. Graduate courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering are numbered within the 600 or 700 series, each representing a one-term course with a 0.50 unit weight, as outlined in the Graduate Studies Academic Calendar. This structure balances coursework and research to prepare students for advanced expertise in chemical engineering.
