COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering Collaborative Nanotechnology program, students must complete CHE 600 Engineering and Research Methods, Ethics, Practice, and Law (0.25 credit weight) along with four graduate courses (0.50 unit weight each). These courses include CHE 601 Theory and Application of Transport Phenomena or CHE 602 Chemical Reactor Analysis, NANO 600 Introduction to Nanotechnology, one nanotechnology elective course, and one graduate-level Chemical Engineering elective. Students are limited to no more than two courses taught by their supervisors and may take only one reading course. Those with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nanotechnology Engineering from the University of Waterloo cannot take NANO 600 but may instead select any one nanotechnology elective from the approved list. The nanotechnology electives include advanced topics such as Characterization of Nanomaterials, Structure and Spectroscopy of Nanoscale Materials, Nanocomposites, Nanomechanics and Molecular Dynamics Simulations, Design of MEMS & NEMS, Advanced MicroElectroMechanical Systems: Physics, Design & Fabrication, and From Atoms to Crystals, Quantum Wells, Wires and Dots. Course selection is done in consultation with the student’s research supervisor. Typically, students maintain a full course load of at least two 0.50 unit courses per term while progressing in their research projects, with courses numbered in the 600 or 700 series representing one-term graduate courses as per the Graduate Studies Academic Calendar.
