COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Psychology offers five specialized Graduate Research Fields—Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Social Psychology—each with its own course requirements tailored to advanced research and academic progression. All students must complete at least one statistics course such as PSYCH 630 or PSYCH 632, with options for more advanced quantitative methods like structural equation modeling or multi-level modeling depending on the field. Clinical Psychology students follow a structured sequence over two years, including core courses in psychopathology, assessment, ethics, and various clinical practica, alongside a Clinical Research Forum. Cognitive Neuroscience students complete core courses in behavioural neuroscience and must take the Cognitive Neuroscience Seminar for two years. Cognitive Psychology students focus on topics like memory, attention, problem solving, and must participate in a Cognitive Psychology Seminar. Developmental Psychology students select two core courses on language, cognitive, or social development and engage in the Developmental Psychology Seminar. Social Psychology students complete at least two courses in areas like intergroup relations, culture, and motivation, with ongoing participation in the Social Psychology Seminar. Across all fields, students can take a limited number of breadth courses outside their specialization, ensuring a strong foundation while allowing interdisciplinary exploration aligned with their research interests.
