COURSE CURRICULUM

Students pursuing the thesis option in the Master of Arts in Psychology Collaborative Aeronautics program must complete six one-term courses accepted for graduate credit by the Department of Psychology. These include two interdisciplinary aeronautics courses—AVIA 601 (Interdisciplinary Aeronautics) and AVIA 602 (Interdisciplinary Aeronautics Project)—which bring together students from multiple faculties to explore cross-disciplinary perspectives on aviation, aerospace, and space. Students must also complete one advanced statistics course, either PSYCH 630 (Advanced Analysis of Variance) or PSYCH 632 (Multiple Regression), along with three psychology courses in the Cognitive Psychology area. With approval from the Graduate Officer and their supervisor(s), students may substitute courses from another psychological research area. This program is offered through the Collaborative Aeronautics Program, a joint initiative across several faculties that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and application of psychological principles to aeronautical contexts. While students receive in-depth training in their home discipline of psychology, they also benefit from working with peers in other fields, gaining a broader understanding of how cognitive processes relate to human performance and decision-making in complex, high-stakes environments. The program’s structure prepares students to apply cognitive psychology research to real-world challenges in aviation and related sectors, supporting careers in research, industry, or further academic study.
