COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Geography Collaborative Water program (Thesis option) blends foundational geographic training with interdisciplinary water expertise. Students are required to complete GEOG700A and GEOG700B – Geographic Scholarship and Practice 1 and 2 (0.25 unit weight each), which support the development of graduate-level academic skills and research foundations. In addition, students will complete WATER601 – Integrated Water Management (0.50), a course that explores theoretical frameworks and practical strategies for addressing complex water issues, and WATER602 – Integrated Water Management Project (0.50), which provides applied experience through fieldwork, group collaboration, and individual research presentations. To further support their thesis research, students must also complete at least one GEOG or GEMCC graduate-level elective course (0.50 unit weight) that aligns with their area of study. With approval from the Graduate Officer, students may substitute this elective with a relevant graduate-level course outside of the GEOG or GEMCC offerings. This program structure ensures that students are not only equipped with specialized knowledge in geography and water management but also prepared to conduct original research that addresses pressing environmental and water-related challenges, preparing them for impactful careers in academia, government, consulting, or the nonprofit sector.
