COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Geography Collaborative Aeronautics program with a thesis option combines rigorous geographic research with interdisciplinary training in aeronautics. To fulfill the thesis requirements, students must complete AVIA601 (Interdisciplinary Aeronautics) and AVIA602 (Interdisciplinary Aeronautics Project), which provide foundational and project-based learning experiences in aviation, aerospace, and space studies in collaboration with students from other disciplines. In addition, students take GEOG700A and GEOG700B (Geographic Scholarship and Practice 1 and 2), which build essential skills in research design, scholarly communication, and disciplinary knowledge in geography. Students are also required to complete at least one other graduate-level course (0.50 unit weight) in GEOG or GEMCC that supports their individual research focus, such as environmental and resource management, human geography, or geomatics. With approval from the Graduate Officer, students may take an elective outside the GEOG or GEMCC programs to further enrich their interdisciplinary learning. This structure allows students to engage in original research while gaining a solid foundation in both geography and aeronautical studies. The program equips graduates with the advanced research skills, technical knowledge, and cross-disciplinary collaboration experience necessary to address complex challenges in aviation, aerospace, and environmental systems, and to pursue careers in research, government, or industry.
