COURSE CURRICULUM

The thesis option for the Master of Arts in Philosophy program requires students to complete PHIL 680A and PHIL 680B, which are the Departmental Graduate Seminars, providing opportunities for advanced discussion and engagement with contemporary philosophical issues. In addition, students must complete three one-term graduate courses, each with a 0.50 unit weight, allowing for in-depth study in various areas of philosophy. Central to the thesis option is the directed research course, PHIL 696 Directed Research for MA Candidates, which is typically taken under the guidance of the student’s thesis supervisor. This course involves focused research leading to the development and completion of a thesis on a topic chosen by the student, who should ideally have decided on their research focus by mid-year.
