COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s Research Paper option in the Geography Collaborative Water program requires students to complete several core courses to build a strong foundation in geographic scholarship and water management. Students must take GEOG700A and GEOG700B – Geographic Scholarship and Practice 1 and 2 (0.25 unit weight each), which develop essential research skills. Additionally, students complete WATER601 – Integrated Water Management (0.50) and WATER602 – Integrated Water Management Project (0.50), focusing on theoretical and practical aspects of water issues, including fieldwork and interdisciplinary collaboration. To deepen their expertise, students choose one course from a list that includes GEOG604 – Spatial Statistics, GEOG617 – Applied Statistics in Ecology and Environment, GEOG620 – Foundations in Human Geography, GEOG625 – Qualitative Methods in Geography, or GEOG640 – Contextualizing Research in Earth System Science (each 0.50 unit weight). Furthermore, students must complete two additional graduate-level courses from GEOG or GEMCC (0.50 unit weight each) that complement their research focus. With the Graduate Officer’s approval, students may also select relevant electives outside these departments. This program equips students with both interdisciplinary water management knowledge and advanced geographic research skills, preparing them to undertake original research and pursue careers in academia, government, consulting, and nonprofit sectors addressing complex environmental and water challenges.
