COURSE CURRICULUM

Students pursuing the thesis option in Classical Studies must complete a total of 2.0 graduate course credits, which are typically fulfilled by taking four one-term graduate-level courses, each worth 0.50 credit. These courses must be in Classical Studies, covering subjects such as CLAS (Classical Studies), GRK (Greek), or LAT (Latin). A mandatory component of the coursework is CLAS 600, Research Methods in Classical Studies, which provides essential skills and methodologies for conducting advanced research in the field. In addition to these courses, students have the flexibility to substitute one 0.50 credit course with two 0.25 credit courses from specific language options, including GRK 610, GRK 620, LAT 610, or LAT 620. This substitution allows students to tailor their studies according to their linguistic focus and research needs while still meeting the program’s overall credit requirements. The combination of rigorous coursework and focused research prepares students for in-depth scholarship in classical languages, literature, history, and culture, ensuring a comprehensive and well-rounded graduate education in Classical Studies.
