COURSE CURRICULUM

The thesis option for the Master of Arts in Anthropology (Public Issues) requires students to complete three core courses: ANTH600 Public Issues Anthropology, ANTH608 Anthropological Theory, and ANTH614 Research Methods, each carrying a 0.50 unit weight. ANTH600 and ANTH608 are typically offered in the fall term, while ANTH614 is available in the winter term. In addition to these core courses, students must complete one elective course, also valued at 0.50 units. Usually, students finish their elective in the winter term as well. After successfully completing a minimum of 2.00 credits through coursework, students proceed to the thesis phase, where they conduct original research and write their thesis to fulfill the degree requirements. This structured course and thesis combination ensures that students build a strong foundation in anthropological theory, research methods, and public issues before engaging deeply in independent research. The program’s design offers a balanced approach, blending coursework and research that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for critical analysis and contribution to anthropology, with a focus on public issues and real-world applications.
