COURSE CURRICULUM

The Science and Business program at Waterloo requires a comprehensive blend of science, business, and economics courses designed to build a strong interdisciplinary foundation. Students must complete core chemistry courses including General Chemistry 1 and 2 with laboratories, alongside foundational computing and calculus classes. Economics is well represented with introductory micro- and macroeconomics, microeconomic theory, statistics, and business finance. Business skills are developed through courses in entrepreneurship, management, organizational behavior, strategic management, and workshops focused on science and business integration. Communication skills are emphasized through a required science communication course. In addition to business and economics, students take a range of science courses, choosing at least two biology classes covering topics from biodiversity to microbiology, as well as earth sciences with labs. Physics courses in mechanics and waves with labs are mandatory, supplemented by additional science lectures or labs for a well-rounded scientific education. Furthermore, students must complete one of several approved advanced business or economics electives such as financial mathematics, international business, venture creation, or human resources management. This rigorous curriculum equips graduates with the analytical, scientific, and managerial skills necessary to excel in diverse industries at the intersection of science and business.
