COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics program requires completion of a comprehensive set of core courses designed to build a strong foundation in both physics and mathematics. Students must complete introductory courses such as Principles of Computing for Science, Calculus 1 and 2 for the Sciences, and further advanced mathematics including Calculus 3 and Differential Equations tailored for physics and chemistry. Core physics courses cover Mechanics and its laboratory, Waves, Electricity and Magnetism with labs, Modern Physics, and Quantum Physics, alongside specialized courses in Electricity and Magnetism, Classical Mechanics, Optics, Thermal Physics, Statistical Mechanics, and Mathematical Physics. Laboratory work is emphasized through multiple practical courses including introductory, intermediate, modern physics, electronics, astronomy, and advanced laboratories. Communication skills are also incorporated through a required science communication course. Additionally, students must complete 1.25 units from an approved list of biology, chemistry, or earth sciences courses, providing interdisciplinary breadth. To deepen physics knowledge, students must also take 0.5 units of additional physics courses at any level and complete 1.5 units of advanced 400-level physics lecture courses, excluding certain specialized courses. This rigorous curriculum ensures graduates have both theoretical and practical expertise, preparing them for diverse careers in physics research, industry, or further studies.
