COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete the program, students must finish 17.5 units, covering a comprehensive set of required courses spanning biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and communication. Core courses include Introductory Cell Biology and extensive chemistry classes such as Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter, Chemical Reactions, Equilibria and Kinetics, Organic Chemistry series, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry fundamentals, and advanced lab work like Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry. Students also complete courses in chemical thermodynamics, computational chemistry, chemical kinetics, and spectroscopy, alongside a significant research project in their senior year. Calculus for the Sciences is required to strengthen mathematical foundations, complemented by physics courses covering Mechanics, Waves, Electricity, and Magnetism, each paired with laboratory components to provide hands-on experience. Communication skills are developed through courses like Communication in the Sciences. Additionally, students choose from a list of approved elective courses that allow specialization and exploration in areas such as spectroscopy, inorganic and solid-state chemistry, quantum mechanics, polymer science, biochemistry, and drug design. This extensive curriculum equips graduates with deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for careers in pharmaceutical chemistry, materials science, or research, preparing them for both industry roles and advanced studies.
