COURSE CURRICULUM

The Public Health Sciences program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to address health from multiple angles, including biological, social, environmental, and policy perspectives. Students begin with foundational courses such as Introduction to Health, Biological Determinants of Health, and Health Data Science, which establish essential knowledge in health science and research methods. The program covers a wide range of topics including aging, public and population health, epidemiology, health communication, health informatics, environmental toxicology, and health promotion. Advanced courses explore specialized areas like mental health, addiction, global health, health policy, nutrition, occupational health, and pandemic preparedness. Students also study social determinants of health, health systems in Canada and globally, and engage in applied learning through community projects, program planning, and evaluation. The program emphasizes data analysis, health informatics, and the use of geographic information systems to map disease and inform public health strategies. Opportunities for independent study, honours theses, and apprenticeships enable students to deepen their expertise and gain practical experience.
