COURSE CURRICULUM

The Earth Sciences program requires completion of foundational courses including BIOL110 Biodiversity, Biomes, and Evolution, and microbiology courses BIOL240 and BIOL240L, alongside core chemistry courses CHEM120, CHEM120L, CHEM123, and CHEM123L. Essential Earth science courses include EARTH121 and EARTH121L, EARTH122 and EARTH122L, EARTH123 Introductory Hydrology, EARTH221 Geochemistry, EARTH223 Field Methods in Hydrology, EARTH231 Mineralogy, EARTH232 Petrography, EARTH235 Stratigraphy, EARTH238 Structural Geology, EARTH333 Sedimentology, EARTH342 Geomorphology and GIS, EARTH355 Water: Data to Decisions, EARTH390 Geological Mapping, EARTH436A Thesis Proposal, EARTH440 Quaternary Geology, and ERS215 Environmental and Sustainability Assessment. Mathematics and physics fundamentals include MATH127 Calculus 1, PHYS111 Physics 1, and STAT202 Introductory Statistics for Scientists. Students choose between BIOL462 or EARTH444 Applied Wetland Science, and either COMMST193 or ENGL193 for communication skills. Further specialization requires selecting between EARTH331 Volcanology or EARTH458 Physical Hydrogeology, followed by EARTH436B Honours Thesis and an additional 300-level or higher EARTH course. Students also complete three courses from AMATH, BIOL, CHEM, CS, MATH, MNS, PHYS, or STAT, plus one course each from two of those subject codes. Certain introductory computing and math courses do not count towards the program. This comprehensive curriculum equips students with interdisciplinary skills to excel in Earth sciences and related fields.
