COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematical Economics program requires a structured blend of economics and mathematics courses, providing students with a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied aspects of each field. In economics, students must complete core courses such as microeconomics (ECON101, ECON290, ECON491), macroeconomics (ECON102, ECON306, ECON496), market structures (ECON391, ECON393), and a senior honours essay (ECON472), maintaining a minimum 70% average. Students also choose one advanced economics elective from topics like monetary policy, business cycles, or labor economics, and complete four additional 300- or 400-level ECON courses. In mathematics, students study differential equations (AMATH350), forecasting (STAT443), and applied linear models (STAT331), and must maintain at least a 60% average. They also select one course in real analysis, one in optimization, and one in advanced calculus, from a set of rigorous options including PMATH and AMATH courses. In addition, students complete seven more math courses from disciplines such as actuarial science, combinatorics, statistics, and computer science, along with two general electives. This combination of analytical economics and mathematical depth equips graduates to model, analyze, and interpret complex economic systems, preparing them for advanced research, graduate studies, or careers in data analysis, finance, policy, or consulting.
