COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography and Environmental Management program requires completion of 7.5 units, designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in environmental studies and geographic principles. Core courses include Communications for Environmental Professions, Environmental Applications of Data Management and Statistics, Introduction to Environmental Studies, and Applied Statistics for Environmental Research, ensuring strong communication and analytical skills. Foundational geography courses such as On Becoming a Geographer, Global Environmental Systems: Processes and Change, and Designing Effective Maps deepen your understanding of physical and human geography. You will then choose six courses from a range of specialized topics including Geography of the Global Economy, Environment and Development in a Global Perspective, Principles of Geomorphology, Climate Change Fundamentals, Hydroclimatology, Earth from Space Using Remote Sensing, and Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, allowing you to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals. Additionally, you will select one course focusing on research approaches in either Human or Physical Geography, preparing you for rigorous academic inquiry. Finally, the program includes a field research component—either local or international—offering hands-on experience that brings theoretical knowledge to life and prepares you for practical challenges in environmental and geographic work. This combination of courses ensures a well-rounded education that equips students to address complex environmental and societal issues effectively.
