COURSE CURRICULUM

The Aviation program requires completion of 13 units, combining core aviation courses with environmental and geography studies to prepare students for a career as professional pilots with a strong environmental foundation. Key aviation courses include Introduction to Aviation, multiple Professional Pilot Program Courses, and several Preparatory Ground Instruction classes, covering essential flight training and ground knowledge. Advanced courses such as Human Factors in Aviation and Aviation Safety emphasize the importance of pilot decision-making and risk management. Complementing the aviation curriculum, students take foundational courses in computing, environmental studies, and statistics, including Communications for Environmental Professions, Environmental Applications of Data Management and Statistics, and Applied Statistics for Environmental Research. Geography courses deepen understanding of the natural world, featuring Global Environmental Systems, Designing Effective Maps, Earth from Space Using Remote Sensing, and Physical Climatology. Additionally, students choose from specialized geography topics such as Geography of the Global Economy or Environment and Development in a Global Perspective, Principles of Geomorphology or Hydroclimatology, and Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) courses. To round out research skills, students complete either Approaches to Research in Human Geography or Physical Geography. This integrated curriculum equips students with both the technical aviation expertise and environmental knowledge essential for navigating and understanding the complex challenges faced by pilots today.
