COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environment, Resources and Sustainability (ERS) program spans four years, blending core courses with electives to provide a comprehensive education. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge with courses like ERS 101: Approaches, Resources and Sustainability, ENVS 178: Environmental Applications of Data Management and Statistics, and ENVS 195: Introduction to Environmental Studies, alongside electives totaling 2.5 units each term. Year 2 deepens understanding through courses such as ERS 201: Environmental Policy, Politics and Governance, ERS 202: Natural Resources Ecology, and ERS 215: Introduction to Environmental Assessment, with continued electives each term. Year 3 emphasizes analysis and research with ERS 300: Social Ecological Systems Analysis, ERS 301: Sustainability Thought, Practice and Prospects, and ERS 302: Research Methods and Design, complemented by electives. The final year offers advanced study options including ERS 400: Social-Ecological Approaches to Sustainability and the Senior Honours Seminar ERS 402 or a Senior Honours Thesis (ERS 403A/B) by approval, alongside elective courses. Throughout the program, students must complete seven core ERS/ENVS electives totaling 3.5 units, with up to two ENVS courses permitted. This balanced curriculum equips students with interdisciplinary expertise and practical skills necessary to address complex sustainability challenges in diverse environmental and policy contexts.
