COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environment and Business program at Waterloo requires the completion of 13.5 academic units, integrating environmental knowledge with business fundamentals. Core courses include ENBUS102, which introduces the intersection of environment and business, and foundational economics courses (ENBUS103 and ENBUS104) that frame sustainability in economic terms. Students study environmental management systems (ENBUS202), green entrepreneurship (ENBUS203), sustainable finance (ENBUS310), and corporate sustainability strategies (ENBUS302). A strong environmental foundation is built through ENVS105 (Environmental Ethics), ENVS200 (Field Ecology), ENVS201 (Environmental Law), and statistical analysis in ENVS178 and ENVS278. Communication and marketing skills are developed through ENVS131 and ENBUS211, while courses like GEOG203 and ERS215 explore global development and environmental assessment. Students also take introductory business and accounting through AFM or ARBUS options and choose two electives from a list that includes business ethics, circular economy, sustainability management, or fashion and sustainability. In their final year, students complete a capstone project through either ENBUS409A/B or the interdisciplinary ENVS403A/B. Additionally, students must complete 1.5 units from an approved course list featuring advanced topics like life cycle assessment, corporate sustainability reporting, stakeholder engagement, and energy and sustainability. This comprehensive curriculum prepares graduates to bridge the gap between sustainability and business across diverse sectors.
