COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre and Performance (THPERF) program offers a comprehensive exploration of theatre arts, combining practical skills with critical theory to prepare students for dynamic careers in the performing arts. Beginning with foundational courses like Introduction to Theatre and Performance, students engage with diverse topics including Black Arts and Culture, Critical Design Practices, and Theatre in Canada. The curriculum balances performance-focused classes—such as Acting, Voice, Directing, and Collaborative Creation—with technical training in Production, Stage Management, and Design for Performance Media. Specialized courses in Political Performance, Race and Performance, and Sustainability in Design encourage students to examine theatre’s role in social justice and environmental issues. Opportunities to study Shakespeare, participate in productions, and engage with performance technologies further enrich the experience. Advanced seminars and senior projects provide avenues for in-depth study and creative inquiry. This program integrates hands-on production participation with rigorous academic inquiry, allowing students to develop versatile skills in performance, management, and critical analysis.
