COURSE CURRICULUM

The program’s course requirements are designed to provide a comprehensive and progressive understanding of religion and its impact on society. Students must complete the core courses RCS260 Religion Matters, which introduces key themes and questions about religion’s role, and RCS499 Senior Seminar, a capstone experience that encourages in-depth research and critical analysis. In addition to these foundational courses, students are required to complete 2.0 units of RCS courses at the 200-level, allowing them to build on their introductory knowledge with intermediate-level study across various religious traditions and topics. To deepen expertise, 1.5 units of RCS courses at the 300-level or above must also be completed, offering advanced exploration of specialized themes in religion, culture, and society. Beyond these specific requirements, students must complete 3.5 additional units of RCS courses, providing flexibility to tailor the program according to their interests. This structure ensures a well-rounded education that combines foundational knowledge, intermediate breadth, and advanced depth. By meeting these requirements, students develop critical thinking, research skills, and a nuanced understanding of the diverse ways religion shapes human experience, preparing them for careers in fields such as education, public service, law, and more.
