COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architecture program is structured to provide a comprehensive education through progressive, hands-on design studios and theoretical courses across eight academic terms. In the 1A term, students begin with foundational courses such as Visual and Digital Media 1, Introduction to Architectural Ideas and Communications, Cultural History, Building Construction 1, and a Design Studio that fosters practical skills. In 1B, the curriculum expands with Visual and Digital Media 2, Environmental Building Design, Settlements, Sanctuaries, and Cities, Building Construction 2, and another intensive Design Studio. The 2A term includes Digital Fabrication, Cultural Encounters from 600-1600, Principles of Structures, and continued Design Studio work. In 2B, students study Contemporary Landscape Theory and Design, Indigenous Practices, Cultural Encounters from 1600-1914, Timber Design and Construction, alongside Design Studio. The 3A term advances with courses on Urban Architecture, Modernisms locally and globally, Steel and Concrete construction, Building Science, and Design Studio. In 3B, students take an Option Design Studio, Contemporary Architectural Theory, and two approved electives. The 4A term focuses on a Design Studio and two electives, while 4B concludes with Integrated Environmental Systems, a Technical Report, a comprehensive Design Studio project, and one elective. This curriculum balances technical knowledge, cultural context, and creative design, preparing students for careers in architecture and related fields.
