COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Physics with a concentration in Medical Physics is a specialized, research-intensive program that combines advanced coursework, clinical exposure, and a thesis to prepare students for careers in healthcare and medical technology. Students complete a comprehensive set of core courses, including PHYS534 and PHYS535 (Radiotherapy Physics I and II), which cover the principles and applications of radiation therapy, as well as PHYS539 (Radiation Dosimetry) and PHYS540 (Medical Imaging), which focus on measuring radiation and understanding imaging technologies used in diagnosis and treatment. Additional courses such as PHYS544 (Topics in Radiation Biophysics) and PHYS545 (Anatomy and Physiology for the Medical Physicist) provide essential knowledge of biological systems and radiation effects on the human body. Practical experience is gained through PHYS546 (Clinical Shadowing), allowing students to observe real-world medical physics applications in clinical settings. Students also participate in PHYS560 (Colloquium) to stay informed about current developments in the field. The program requires the completion of PHYS599, a substantial MSc thesis based on original research, along with 1.5 units of electives to support individual interests. The degree concludes with a final oral examination, where students defend their research and demonstrate professional competence in medical physics.
