COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Neuroscience is a full-time, research-focused graduate program that combines advanced coursework with a substantial thesis based on original scientific research. Students are expected to work closely with a supervisory committee, which may recommend additional courses to address specific academic or methodological gaps relevant to the student’s thesis project. The program begins with foundational training, where students complete either NRSC500A (Fundamentals of Cellular Neuroscience) or NRSC500B (Fundamentals of Cognitive Neuroscience), depending on their area of specialization. In addition, students undertake a significant thesis component (NRSC599), which forms the central requirement of the degree and typically involves extensive independent research over multiple terms. A further 1.5 units of coursework are selected in consultation with the supervisory committee, allowing flexibility to tailor training to individual research goals. In the first year, students also complete advanced coursework such as NRSC501A or NRSC501B, which provide deeper engagement with either cellular or cognitive neuroscience topics. In subsequent years, students continue with NRSC502A or NRSC502B to further develop specialized expertise. These structured stages ensure progressive academic and research development while maintaining flexibility for individual interests. Overall, the program prepares students for high-level research careers or doctoral studies by integrating core neuroscience knowledge with rigorous, supervised research training.
