COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Kinesiology at the University of Victoria is a research-focused graduate program designed around an inquiry-based approach that allows students to explore specialized questions in exercise science, physical activity, and health under faculty supervision. The program provides flexibility for students to develop expertise in their chosen subdiscipline while building strong research and analytical skills. Core requirements include coursework in research methods and a graduate seminar, which help students strengthen their understanding of academic inquiry and scientific communication. Students then select from advanced topic areas such as physiological, psychological, neuroscientific, health promotion, or pedagogical issues related to exercise and physical activity, ensuring exposure to multiple dimensions of kinesiology. The central requirement of the degree is the completion of a thesis, which involves conducting independent, original research and submitting a written document followed by an oral defense. This thesis is the major academic contribution of the program and demonstrates the student’s ability to carry out rigorous scientific research.
