COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Health Informatics is a full-time graduate program that combines coursework with either a research project or a thesis, requiring a minimum of 16.5 units of study. Students must complete core foundational courses including HINF503 (Research Methods in Health Informatics and Digital Health), HINF572 (Health Informatics Overview), HINF573 (Applied Statistics for Health Informatics), and HINF580 (Health Informatics Graduate Seminar), each worth 1.5 units. In addition, students must select one Information Structure course from options such as Health Database Design, Intelligent Decision Support Systems and AI in Health, Health Information Standards, or Health Information Systems Design, although substitutions may be allowed with approval. After completing coursework, students proceed to either a research project or a thesis. In the research project option, students complete HINF598 (a 3.0-unit research project) along with 6 units of electives. In the thesis option, students complete HINF599 (a 6.0-unit thesis) and 3 units of electives, offering a more research-intensive pathway. All coursework must be completed before the final oral examination, and students are expected to remain enrolled full-time throughout the program. The program also offers flexibility through online and on-campus course delivery, integrating health sciences with data systems, statistics, and digital technologies for healthcare decision-making.
