COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program requires a minimum of 21.0 units and is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in public health theory, methods, and applied practice. The program combines core coursework, an area of focus, electives, a practicum, and a culminating academic requirement. Core courses (9.0 units) cover key areas such as public health epidemiology, biostatistics, population health and health promotion, supportive environments and healthy public policy, public health interventions, and research and evaluation methods. In addition to this core foundation, students complete 4.5 units of coursework within a chosen area of focus, allowing specialization in fields aligned with their academic and professional interests. Students also take 1.5 units of electives to broaden their understanding of related topics. Practical experience is a central component of the program, with a required 3.0-unit practicum (PHSP 589) that provides 450 hours of supervised professional placement in a public health setting. The program concludes with either a 3.0-unit culminating report or a 6.0-unit thesis, depending on the student’s chosen pathway. Both options require independent work that applies public health knowledge to real-world issues, demonstrating analytical, research, and problem-solving skills relevant to population health and community well-being.
