COURSE CURRICULUM

The MMus in Music Technology is an integrative, project-based graduate program designed to prepare students for advanced creative and technical work in music technology. It welcomes students from diverse musical backgrounds and positions them at the forefront of 21st-century music creation and innovation. The program emphasizes hands-on learning supported by close faculty mentorship, access to advanced digital music studios, and facilities such as the Fine Arts Studio for Integrated Media (SIM). Students also benefit from collaboration with musicians, artists, and researchers across disciplines, along with performance and presentation opportunities within the School. The curriculum includes core courses such as MUS503 (Introduction to Graduate Study and Music Bibliography), MUS510 (Computational Music and Audio Analysis), MUS511 (Music Perception and Cognition), and MUS598C, the MMus Project, which forms the central component of the degree. In addition, students complete 7.5 units of electives chosen from areas such as computer science, audio engineering, multimedia systems, musicology, performance, and technology studies, selected in consultation with a supervisor. The program culminates in a major project presented to a supervisory committee, accompanied by a detailed written report. Depending on the project type, students may deliver a formal presentation or demonstration as part of their final evaluation. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in music technology, sound design, research, and interdisciplinary media arts.
