COURSE CURRICULUM

The MEng in Mechanical Engineering is a professionally oriented graduate program designed to strengthen and extend students’ undergraduate engineering knowledge for advanced industrial practice. The program is structured in consultation with a supervisory committee, which determines each student’s individualized study plan and may require additional coursework depending on academic background. All students are supervised by a member of the department’s graduate faculty. The minimum requirement includes 12 units of coursework, which may include up to 3 units of MECH590, with only 1.5 units directly related to the final project, and up to 3 units of 400-level courses. With approval from the supervisor and Graduate Program Director, students may also take relevant courses from other departments to support their academic and professional goals. In addition, students must complete MECH594, a 1.0-unit seminar in which they are required to register throughout the program and attend at least six seminars per term, totaling 36 seminars over two years. The program culminates in MECH598, a 3.0-unit MEng Project Report based on an approved engineering topic that demonstrates applied technical competence. Overall, the MEng program emphasizes practical learning, technical skill development, and applied engineering problem-solving, preparing graduates for professional careers in industry, engineering design, and applied mechanical systems development.
