COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education (MEd) in Educational Psychology at the University of Victoria is a structured, coursework-and-project based graduate program that typically requires about 20 months (five terms) of full-time study to complete. It is designed to help students develop advanced knowledge of psychological principles related to learning, development, and instruction, with a strong focus on applying research to real educational settings. The program includes required coursework in areas such as psychology of learning and instruction, statistical methods in education, educational research methods, and inclusive education, providing students with a solid foundation in both theory and data analysis. Students then choose additional courses from specialized topics such as cognitive, social, and emotional development, adolescent development, motivation and self-regulated learning, advanced assessment and intervention in special education, and developmental psychopathology. This structure allows students to tailor their studies toward either Learning, Development and Instructional Sciences or Special Education. In addition to coursework, students complete elective courses selected in consultation with a supervisor and finish the degree with a major applied project (ED-D598). This project enables students to integrate theory and research into practical educational solutions. Overall, the program prepares graduates for professional roles in education where they can apply psychological knowledge to improve learning outcomes and support diverse student populations.
