COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria is a research-focused graduate program requiring a combination of coursework, seminars, and a major thesis. Students must complete 7.5 units of approved coursework, which may include graduate-level courses and, in some cases, limited undergraduate-level courses (up to 3.0 units at the 400 level and, in exceptional cases, 1.5 units at the 300 level). The exact course selection is determined in consultation with the student’s supervisory committee and must be approved by the department. In addition to coursework, students are required to complete a seminar course (ECE509) that supports academic presentation and research communication skills. The central requirement of the program is the MASc thesis (ECE599), which carries 12.0 units and involves independent, original research conducted under faculty supervision. The thesis must follow faculty guidelines and demonstrate the student’s ability to carry out advanced engineering research. Upon completion, the thesis is defended in a formal oral examination before an examining committee.
