COURSE CURRICULUM

Graduates of the MA in Law and Society program will develop a strong interdisciplinary foundation that supports critical engagement with legal issues across a range of contexts. Central to the program is the ability to build an individualized area of specialization, shaped by the student's thesis project and supported by interdisciplinary coursework and mentorship. Drawing on perspectives from disciplines such as political science, sociology, philosophy, and Indigenous studies, students will learn to approach legal questions from multiple vantage points, enriching their understanding of how law operates within—and in response to—society. Throughout the program, students will gain the skills to apply discipline-specific and project-specific research methods effectively, enabling them to conduct thoughtful, evidence-based inquiries. Whether using qualitative methods, theoretical analysis, or comparative frameworks, students will develop methodological fluency tailored to their research interests and professional goals. Just as importantly, the program places a strong emphasis on communication. Graduates will be able to clearly and confidently articulate complex legal and interdisciplinary concepts, not only within academic settings but also to broader audiences, including policymakers, legal professionals, and the public. This ability to bridge academic insight and practical relevance is a key outcome of the program and prepares students to contribute meaningfully to public discourse on law and society. Whether pursuing a career in legal research, public policy, community advocacy, or further academic study, students leave the program equipped with the analytical tools, research expertise, and communication skills needed to navigate and influence the complex relationship between law and the world around us.
