COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Computer Science at the University of Victoria is an interdisciplinary program that combines the study of human behaviour with computing, artificial intelligence, and data science. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through introductory psychology, biology, programming, mathematics, logic, and academic writing or humanities electives, developing both scientific and communication skills. Year 2 focuses on core training in algorithms, computer architecture, software development, research methods in psychology, mind and brain studies, and introductory statistics, along with optional courses in social psychology, lifespan development, or mental health. In Year 3, students advance into more specialized topics such as operating systems, databases, logic and programming, and advanced data structures, while also completing statistical training in psychology and life sciences. They also study human-computer interaction, linking psychology with interface design and user experience. Year 4 emphasizes artificial intelligence, where students choose courses in AI or related computing fields, alongside advanced computer science and psychology electives. Throughout the program, students also complete electives to broaden their academic experience. Overall, the degree develops strong analytical, technical, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in artificial intelligence, user experience design, software development, cognitive science, and data-driven fields where understanding both humans and technology is essential.
