COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography program requirements provide a balanced combination of foundational knowledge, technical skills and advanced specialization in physical and spatial sciences. In Year 1, students begin with core courses such as GEOG103 and select introductory courses in environment, society or digital geography, along with a mathematics course and science electives from disciplines like biology, chemistry or physics. This builds a strong scientific base. In Year 2, students develop technical expertise through required courses in GIS, quantitative methods and remote sensing, while also choosing courses in climatology, biogeography or geomorphology, and a human geography option such as environmental management or social geography. Additional science electives further strengthen analytical skills. In Years 3 and 4, students specialize through regional geography courses and advanced topics in GIS, remote sensing and spatial analysis. They also select from physical geography courses such as hydrology, climatology, geomorphology or ecology, many of which include field-based learning. Further upper-level geography electives and senior 400-level courses allow deeper exploration of specific interests. Overall, the program emphasizes hands-on learning, data analysis and environmental understanding, preparing students for careers in geospatial technology, environmental science, research and resource management.
