COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Geography with a geomatics focus combines geographic science with computer science and requires a structured mix of programming, spatial analysis and advanced technical courses. In Year 1, students build foundational skills in programming through CSC110 and CSC115, along with introductory geography, calculus and mathematical logic courses, plus electives. Year 2 strengthens both computing and geographic analysis with courses in algorithms, computer architecture, GIS, quantitative methods, remote sensing and software development, preparing students for more advanced applications. In Year 3, students expand their technical expertise by studying computer graphics, operating systems and database systems, alongside specialized geomatics topics such as GIS analysis, digital mapping and remote sensing. They also select a systems or software engineering course to broaden their applied computing skills. In Year 4, students focus on advanced geomatics topics, choosing multiple courses in GIS, spatial analysis, remote sensing and field surveying, while also completing senior-level computer science or software engineering courses. Electives throughout the program allow further customization based on interests. Overall, the program emphasizes hands-on learning, data analysis and technological integration, preparing graduates for careers in geospatial technology, GIS development, environmental analysis and spatial data science.
