COURSE CURRICULUM

Data Science program combines computer science, mathematics, and statistics to prepare students for work in data-driven fields. In Year 1, students complete introductory programming courses in CSC110 and CSC115, along with calculus, linear algebra or matrix algebra, and foundational statistics through STAT123, plus electives and academic writing requirements. Year 2 builds core technical skills with algorithms, computer architecture, software development, multivariable calculus, discrete mathematics, and probability and statistics through STAT260 and STAT261. In Year 3, students deepen their expertise with foundations of computer science, database systems, data mining, numerical methods, and advanced statistical modelling including regression, sampling, and mathematical statistics, along with additional electives. Year 4 focuses on advanced applications such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, optimization, and statistical computing, supported by courses in data analysis, generalized linear models, and specialized topics like time series, Bayesian methods, or multivariate analysis. Students also complete electives across computing, engineering, mathematics, and statistics. Across all years, students must maintain minimum grades in core courses and satisfy faculty requirements. The program emphasizes practical computing skills, statistical reasoning, and mathematical thinking, enabling graduates to extract insights from complex data and apply them responsibly in industry, research and public policy settings.
