COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Climate Science at the University of Victoria is an interdisciplinary program that combines earth science, geography, physics, mathematics, and environmental studies to understand climate systems and their impacts. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and introductory courses in oceans, atmosphere, or climate change, along with electives. This stage develops essential scientific and analytical skills needed for advanced study. In the second year, students focus on core climate-related subjects such as weather and climate, environmental data analysis, environmental management, and climatology and hydrology. They also begin coursework in their chosen stream, either Physical Climate Science or Impacts, Adaptations and Mitigation, which shapes their specialization. In the third and fourth years, students complete advanced stream-specific courses that deepen their understanding of climate processes, environmental systems, climate impacts, adaptation strategies, and mitigation approaches. These upper-level courses are combined with electives that allow further exploration of related topics. Throughout the program, students develop strong skills in programming, data analysis, mapping, and scientific communication, which are essential for working with climate data and informing real-world decisions. Overall, the program prepares graduates to address climate change challenges through scientific research, environmental analysis, policy support, and sustainability-focused careers in government, industry, and international organizations.
