COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) program combining Chemistry and Mathematics at the University of Victoria is an interdisciplinary degree designed to develop strong foundations in both chemical sciences and advanced mathematical theory. In the first two years, students study core chemistry subjects including general, inorganic, organic, physical chemistry, thermodynamics, and laboratory work, alongside mathematics courses such as calculus, matrix algebra, logic, algebra, real analysis, programming, physics, and probability and statistics. This phase builds both scientific understanding and strong quantitative and analytical skills. In the third and fourth years, students progress to advanced and specialized topics in both disciplines. In chemistry, they study areas such as quantum chemistry, instrumental analysis, biochemistry, and advanced laboratory techniques, along with upper-level chemistry electives. In mathematics, students focus on complex variables, abstract algebra, and additional advanced courses in analysis, statistics, and applied mathematics. The program also includes laboratory-based chemistry courses and further electives to allow academic flexibility. This combination ensures students gain both theoretical depth and practical problem-solving abilities.
