COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) program in Psychology and Neurobiology at the University of Victoria is designed to help students understand the biological basis of behaviour by combining psychology, biology, chemistry, and neuroscience. In the first year, students build a strong foundation by studying evolution, cell biology, chemistry, academic writing, mathematics, physics, and introductory psychology, which together provide both scientific and psychological grounding. In the second year, the program becomes more focused on biological and psychological systems, with courses in biochemistry, cell biology, organic chemistry, research methods in psychology, and introductory mind and brain studies, along with computing skills and electives. Students also choose courses that introduce core psychological theories and concepts. In the third and fourth years, the program becomes highly specialized, focusing on advanced topics such as animal physiology, neurobiology from molecules to behavior, statistical methods in psychology, and biopsychology. Students also study neuropsychology, drugs and behavior, and other advanced biology or psychology electives to deepen their understanding of brain function and behavior. Strong emphasis is placed on statistics and research methods, ensuring students can analyze scientific data effectively. Electives allow further specialization in neuroscience or psychology. Overall, this program integrates biology and psychology to provide a detailed understanding of the brain and behavior, preparing students for careers in neuroscience, psychology, healthcare, research, and related scientific fields.
