COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program in Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria is a structured and accredited degree that combines electrical engineering, computer science, and systems design to prepare students for modern computing and technology careers. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in engineering chemistry, programming, design communication, engineering mechanics, calculus, matrix algebra, and physics, along with introductory professional practice. In the second year, the focus shifts to core computer and electrical engineering concepts, including digital design, circuits, electricity and magnetism, computer architecture, signals and systems, programming, and engineering mathematics, supported by statistics and design fundamentals. In the third year, students study advanced topics such as cyber-physical systems, microprocessor systems, digital signal processing, communication networks, software development, and VLSI design, along with a design project and elective specialization courses in electronics, control systems, and communications. In the final year, students complete advanced design projects, real-time systems, computer architecture, technical communication, and courses in economics and engineering society impacts, along with technical and complementary electives. The program also emphasizes design projects across multiple years, helping students apply theory to real engineering problems.
