COURSE CURRICULUM

The Statistics program at the University of Victoria provides a strong foundation in mathematics, probability, and data analysis, preparing students to understand and interpret complex information in a wide range of fields. In Years 1 and 2, students build essential skills through courses in programming, calculus, linear algebra, computer-assisted mathematics, and introductory probability and statistics. This stage develops the mathematical and computational base needed for advanced statistical work, while a significant portion of electives allows students to broaden their academic experience. In Years 3 and 4, the program shifts toward advanced statistical theory and applied methods, including mathematical modelling, mathematical statistics, regression analysis, sampling techniques, and experimental design. Students also complete additional upper-level courses in mathematics or statistics, allowing them to specialize further based on their interests, whether in theoretical or applied statistics. Electives provide flexibility to explore related disciplines or complementary areas of study. Overall, the program emphasizes analytical thinking, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
