COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Victoria is a structured, science-focused program that explores human behaviour, cognition, and mental processes through a strong foundation in research and quantitative methods. In Year 1, students begin with introductory psychology alongside supporting courses in biology, computer science, academic writing, mathematics or logic, and electives, providing a broad scientific and analytical base. Year 2 focuses on core psychological foundations, including research methods, social psychology, lifespan development, mind and brain, and mental health, along with complementary social science electives that broaden understanding of human behaviour in context. In Years 3 and 4, the program becomes more advanced and research-intensive, requiring students to complete statistical methods in psychology with a minimum grade standard, followed by advanced statistical analysis and an honours thesis. Students also study specialized psychology content streams, ensuring depth across multiple areas of the discipline. Additional upper-level psychology courses allow further specialization, while electives provide academic flexibility.
