COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physical and Health Education program at the University of Victoria is structured to progressively build knowledge, practical skills, and professional readiness over four years. In Year 1, students develop foundational skills through courses in academic writing, human anatomy, psychology, and physical literacy, along with activity-based courses and electives. Year 2 focuses on applied knowledge, including human movement analysis, motor learning, leadership, exercise prescription, and group fitness, combined with continued activity courses and electives. In Year 3, students deepen their understanding of outdoor recreation, health education for children and youth, and instructional techniques, while also selecting electives and courses related to motor development or working with individuals with special needs. In Year 4, the program emphasizes professional preparation, including interpersonal communication, recreation leadership, and strategies for teaching games in physical education. Students also complete a significant number of upper-level electives to tailor their learning to specific interests. Throughout the program, activity courses remain an important component, ensuring hands-on experience. This structured approach ensures graduates are well-equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for careers in education, recreation, health promotion, and sport leadership.
