COURSE CURRICULUM

The Gender Studies program requires students to complete a structured yet flexible set of courses that build critical understanding of identity, power and social relations. Students begin with GNDR100, which introduces key concepts such as gender, inequality and intersectionality. They then complete 3 units from second-year GNDR courses to deepen their foundational knowledge. At the upper level, all students must take GNDR300, a seminar that strengthens discussion, analysis and research skills, along with GNDR400A and GNDR400B, which focus on critical research practices and an independent research project. Students also choose one specialized course from topics such as masculinities, Indigenous feminisms, queer studies, race and gender, or migration and gender, allowing them to explore specific areas of interest. In addition, students must complete 9 units of upper-level GNDR courses, offering further opportunities to engage with advanced theory and contemporary issues. The program emphasizes both academic study and real-world application, encouraging students to think critically about social justice, equity and inclusion. Overall, the requirements provide a strong foundation in theory, research and applied learning, preparing graduates for diverse careers or further study.
