COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Kinesiology and Health Studies (thesis-based) is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to develop advanced research skills and specialized knowledge in areas of human movement, health, and physical activity. The program combines core coursework with independent thesis research under faculty supervision. Students begin with foundational graduate courses such as KHS 803, which typically focuses on advanced research methods and statistical analysis in kinesiology and health studies. They also complete either KHS 801 or KHS 802, which cover key theoretical and applied concepts in areas such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, or health-related research perspectives, along with KHS 800, which introduces essential graduate-level principles in kinesiology and health studies. In addition to core courses, students take elective graduate-level courses (KHS 8xx and related discipline 8xx), allowing them to specialize in fields such as sport science, rehabilitation, physical activity, health promotion, or related interdisciplinary areas. A major component of the program is KHS 901, the thesis, which accounts for 15 credit hours and involves conducting independent, original research on a selected topic. This research culminates in a written thesis and defense. Overall, the program prepares graduates for doctoral studies or research-focused careers in health, sport, and exercise sciences.
