COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science (thesis-based) is a 30.0 credit hour graduate program designed to develop advanced research and technical expertise in computing and information systems. Offered through the University of Regina, the program follows a research-intensive structure supported by the Department of Computer Science. Students are required to complete approximately 15 credit hours of coursework alongside 15 credit hours of thesis research, allowing them to build both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills. The coursework component includes CS 8xx graduate-level courses and additional CS or non-CS electives, enabling students to specialize in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, software engineering, cybersecurity, or theoretical computing. A key feature of the program is the thesis requirement, completed under CS 901, where students conduct independent, original research under faculty supervision and contribute new knowledge to the field of computer science. In addition, students must complete two non-credit seminar presentations (CS 900), which help develop their communication and academic presentation skills. The program culminates in a thesis defense, where students present and defend their research findings. Overall, the MSc in Computer Science prepares graduates for doctoral studies, research roles, and advanced careers in technology, software development, artificial intelligence, and data-driven industries.
