COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science (project-based) is a 30.0 credit hour graduate program designed to provide advanced technical knowledge and applied research experience in computing. Offered through the University of Regina, the program emphasizes practical, industry-oriented problem solving along with strong theoretical foundations in computer science. Students in this route complete approximately 21 credit hours of coursework, including multiple CS 8xx graduate-level courses and additional CS or approved non-CS electives. These courses allow students to specialize in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, software engineering, cybersecurity, and systems development. In addition to coursework, students complete a 9-credit hour professionally oriented research project under CS 902 or CS 901, which involves applied research, problem-solving, and development of a final project report. This project is completed under faculty supervision and concludes with a formal presentation and defense. Students are also required to give two non-credit CS seminar presentations (CS 900), which help develop communication and professional presentation skills. Unlike the thesis route, the project-based MSc focuses more on applied and practical work rather than independent academic research. Overall, the program prepares graduates for industry roles in software development, IT systems, data analytics, and technology-driven sectors, as well as further professional advancement in computing fields.
