COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Biology (thesis-based) is a 30.0 credit hour graduate program focused on advanced scientific research and training in biological sciences. Offered through the University of Regina, the program is designed for students who wish to develop strong research skills and contribute original knowledge in areas such as ecology, evolution, microbiology, and molecular biology. The program structure includes both coursework and a major research thesis. Students complete foundational graduate seminars such as BIOL 887 and BIOL 888, along with additional BIOL 8xx or related discipline courses, totaling approximately 9–15 credit hours of coursework. The primary component of the degree is BIOL 901, which accounts for 15–21 credit hours and is dedicated to thesis research under faculty supervision. This allows students to engage deeply in independent scientific investigation, data analysis, and laboratory or field-based research. As part of the program requirements, students also present an exit seminar based on their thesis findings, demonstrating their ability to communicate scientific results effectively. Overall, the MSc in Biology prepares graduates for careers in research, biotechnology, environmental science, healthcare-related fields, and doctoral studies by building strong analytical, experimental, and scientific communication skills through intensive research training.
