COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Biochemistry (thesis-based) is a 30.0 credit hour graduate program designed to provide advanced training in biochemical research and molecular sciences. Offered through the University of Regina, the program combines coursework with intensive research to prepare students for careers in scientific research, healthcare, biotechnology, and further doctoral studies. The curriculum begins with BIOC 800, which typically introduces advanced research techniques and foundational biochemical concepts, followed by BIOC 8xx courses that allow students to specialize in areas such as molecular biology, protein chemistry, enzymology, or cellular biochemistry. These courses provide the theoretical knowledge and technical expertise required for high-level laboratory work. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to BIOC 901, a major thesis research component worth approximately 21 credit hours. Under faculty supervision, students conduct independent, original research, investigating complex biochemical problems and contributing new insights to the field. This includes experimental design, data collection, analysis, and scientific reporting. The program culminates in the writing and defense of a thesis.
